Linking To Web Intelligence Reports

InfoView is not the only option to access your Web Intelligence reports. You can create your own portal with Adobe Flash, Xcelsius (which is a very powerful tool), or any other way you want and link them to a Web Intelligence report in 7 simple steps:
  1. Login to the Central Management Console with an administrator account
  2. Go to Organize --> Folders
  3. Select the folder where the Web Intelligence report you want to link to is saved
  4. Click the Objects tab
  5. Select the Web Intelligence report you want to link to
  6. The Web Intelligence report’s file name should be in a format similar to the following. The number in bold is the Web Intelligence report’s id, which you will need to link to it: frs://Input/a_063/019/4927/cdz1160562ad3a0670.wid
  7. Insert the Web Intelligence report’s id in the following URL. You can link directly to the Web Intelligence report from your portal using this URL. Users will be prompted to log in if you do not provide the means for them to log in automatically: http://[BO-SERVER-NAME]/businessobjects/enterprise115/desktoplaunch/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?sType=wid&iDocID=[WEB-INTELLIGENCE-REPORT-Id]' target='_blank" target="_target”
There is an important assumption made in this post; you’re running the Java installation of BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 2. BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 3 has a different URL to link to Web Intelligence reports. Also, the .NET installation of BusinessObjects Enterprise does not use Java Server Pages – no kidding – so for obvious reasons you would need to sub in the correct URL appropriate for .NET.

You can create pretty neat things using this option. Like discussed in the post titled Embedding a Flash Video in an InfoView Corporate Dashboard, you can create a Flash Video with buttons that link to Web Intelligence reports and embed the Flash Video in a Corporate Dashboard, giving users a quicker and fancier way to open Web Intelligence reports besides the traditional way of navigating through InfoView.
